Work Hard And Be Kind

Work Hard And Be Kind, originally uploaded by Clay Larsen via Flickr.

A great twist on the Keep Calm and Carry On posters.

Smell of Paper

I really tried to read books on my ITouch and I failed miserably. I just can't get into not holding nor smelling paper.

When I spotted the Heirloom Book a couple weeks ago, I was floored by how beautiful it looked, smelled and felt. Every page required two hands to turn the handmade fiber sheets and the leather work on the cover felt so old school. I almost missed the book in the catalogue. I really thought it was a prop with the wee one. An Heirloom Book to pass down the family? You are brilliant Anthro.

I had started collecting classics in hardcover judging them by the way they were bound. I wanted them to match the old set of Encyclopaedia Britannica. Even better if the pages were rimmed with a surprising shade of ink or even gold foil. Now Penguins released their clothbound classics with cover designs reminiscent of antique wallpaper. I bet they smell as delicious as they look. Besides, in a couple of years, kids will be tossing out the Twighlight series like I did with the Ann Rice series but with the original melodramtic gems like Wuthering Heights, you keep that 4 eva!

I guess the only way I might be able to pick up a Kindle is if it came with an unlimited supply of library scented candles.

On a side note, who do you think has the better screaming character? Heathcliff screaming for Catherine in Wuthering Heights or Stanley screaming for Stella in Streetcar?

Paper Extravaganza

This interview with Charles Clary is pretty rad. Yes I'm totally in love with these papercuts. I'm so mad that we totally build topographic models in school but never thought to made negative spaces out of them!

Dirty Harry Poster

Loves me some Clint Eastwood movies. Check out this awesome typography poster of Dirty Harry quotes. I wish this could have been one of his cowboy movies though, the retro fonts and the ecru background has that 'ol western feel doesn't it?

Book Binding Love

These journals are totally blowing my mind! I think I can sit in front of my screen and watch forever trying to figure how they have magically bound these cute little journals from RevolveR.

I do love that it comes in both unlined and lined pages, because I hate sketching on lined paper. it makes me feel like a kid not payign attention in class, doodling away on building the most badass compass roses. You know what I'm talking about. Wait, you mean normal people don't doodle that? Huh, well I'll be darned, learn something new everyday.

P.S. - I love their hand drawn illustrations

Retro Aviation Related Ads

Great place to flip through old school advertising from art deco to minimalist, from zeppelins to places I've never been. Some of them reminds me of JHill's prints.

Nice Nod from Neiman

I love looking at Neiman's catalogues, not just because of staying on top of ready to wear collection trends but also they produce these beautiful books that are worthy as standalone coffee table books. At least $15 each, yeah they are a publication that's up there with Taschen in my heart. They usually have awesome covers, printed on nice think paper smelling paper, and they were one of the first to use alternative inks that are environmentally friends. Holding one of these catalogues, you would never imagine that it is at least 40% recycled content. Now the Christmas Book is out and I like their showcase of quilling. Now that's some hot paper on paper action. Ssssssssssssssssssss ow.

yeah it's about the only thing I can own from there.

Geek Crush: Shakespeare Sonnets + Typography

Here is a typography project based on annalyzing and generating patterns from Shakespeare's sonnets. I just love the patterns and overlaps of the outcome. It's like words that have been turned into a beautiful quilt.

ATL Airport, Finally!

I came across this paper fashion exhibit at the Atlanta airport. Some of the pieces look just simply light and gossamer. I’ll just let the images speak for themselves.

Looks like I need to plan a trip to Georgia Tech to check out this paper museum huh?
